China's first 20,000-ton commercial ship, capable of navigating seas and rivers was launched on Dec 8 in Zhoushan, an island city in Zhejiang province, on a trial basis before it is officially put into use.
Zhoushan, located at the intersection of waterways of the Yangtze River and the coastline along the East China Sea, plays a significant role in water transportation.
The ship is a convenient and efficient vessel, as well as a good solution to technological obstacles that hinder seafaring ships from cruising on rivers. It is going to be an important booster to sea-river combined transport in Zhoushan.
It's anticipated that the ship will officially come into service next March.
