Shengsi, also named Shensi Islands, is one of the 12 islands counties in China. Made up of 404 islands, the county covers an area of 8824 square kilometers, in which the land area is 86 square kilometers. It has a population of 86,000. it consists of 3 towns and 4 villages. The county government is located in Caiyuan Town.
Shengsi Isles is the only National Scenic Area made up of isles in China, facing Luchao Port of Shanghai to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east. It has a vast sea area with many isles spreading over it, sands, reefs, caves and cliffs, varieties of landscapes can be seen on isles. Thanks to the temperate weather in Shengsi that is cool in summer and warm in winter, the isles has become a paradise for touring, vacation, seafood tasting and aquatic sports.
The Jihu Sand in Shengsi, which covers 2,200 meters long and more than 200 meters wide with a total area of about 500,000 square meters, is the largest natural beach in Zhoushan, and is highly reputed the Southern Beidai River.
As the main fishery ground in East China Sea and titled with Fish-production Place, Shengsi is rich of fishes like yellow croaker, hairtail, inkfish, etc. Endowed with plentiful resources, the fishing ground in Shengsi has got a national fame, in every winter fishing season, fisherman from neighboring provinces sail here to catch fishes.
Take natural conditions as concerned, not many ports in China could overmatch the Luhua Port, an averagely 20 meters deep port and international anchorage ground in Shengsi.
