Scenery of Taohua Island
Taohua, the 7th largest island in Zhoushan archipelago, lies in the southeast part of the city with an area of 41.74 square kilometers. It is a member of Tourism Golden Delta of Putuo District, along with Putuo Island, Zhujiajian Island, and Shenjiamen. In 1993, Taohua was concluded on the list of Provincial Scenic Areas.
Legends said that the name of Taohua (meaning peach blossom) came from a story of An Qisheng, a hermit in the Former Qin Dynasty (A.D. 351～A.D.394). When practicing moral teachings and working on pills of immortality on Mount Baiyun of Taohua, he occasionally poured ink onto a rock, and the ink was then turned into grains like peach blossoms. Hence the island got the name of Taohua.
Described as a wonder land in Legend of the Condor Heroes and The Return of Condor Heroes ,two of Jin Yong's famous martial fictions, the real Taohua is beautiful with a wealth of tourist resources. It has a few of Zhoushan's Number Ones, including Mount Anqi, Taohua Port, and Dafo Rock. There are six scenic spots in it, featuring martial arts, Buddhism, and Taoism.
