One thousand Kwan-yin statues to be present to temples in Taiwan
A voyage called Nanhai Kwan-yin's Mercy Voyage to Taiwan Island will be launched on September 27, 2010. The cross-Straits direct sail, which has been authorized by China's Ministry of Transport, will start from Zhoushan's Laotangshan Port and arrive on September 28 at Taiwan's Keelung, its first leg of trip.
As one of the key Buddhism culture events in 2010 supported by Taiwan Affairs Office of China, one hundred and eight monks from Putuo Island including Master Daoci, vice president of Buddhist Association of China and president of Buddhist Association of Putuo Isand, will escort one thousand Kwan-yin statues to Taiwan, where the monks will hold Buddhist ceremonies praying for blessings and present those statues to one thousand Buddhist temples in Taiwan as gifts.
Zhoushan has rented an Italian cruise ship named Costa Classica for this voyage. Eight hundred tickets for public have been sold out three days after the announcement was made, about 10% of which are tourists from Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province. During their journey in Taiwan, the eight hundred tourists will visit some famous place such as Palace Museum of Taibei, Memorial Hall of Dr.Sun Yat sen, and Chiang Kai-shek Shilin Residence.
