From November 25 to early December, Zhen Wenxing, an experienced sailor, and Hu Mu, an expert in Zhoushan maritime culture, were invited by a Taiwan group to train sailors for the antique ship '17th-Century Taiwan Ship'.
To develop traditional Chinese sailboat culture, the municipal government of Tainan city reproduced a Fujian style ship based on the ship in 17th century when the national hero Zheng Chenggong recovered Taiwan island.
Lack of craftsmen and boatmen who were skilled in making and installing traditional sails, the Taiwanese group invited several experts from Zhoushan Cen Woodboat Workshop to help them, and on May 1 this year, the ship was successfully launched in Tainan's Anping Port.
On December 4, the '17th Century Taiwan Ship' sailed to Zheng Chenggong's landing port of Luermen and formally handed over to Tainan municipal government.
As scheduled, the ship will sail along the ancient route to Japan and Indonesia, re-creating the grand scene Zheng Zhilong and Zheng Chenggong did hundreds of years ago.
